Overall

No matter what kind of music is created in the future, either if its from a computer, or a piano. Or if an artist is promoting their album with clothes on or with NO clothes on, were still gonna buy it. These artist are not only doing it for the love of it. But dang they got bills to pay too! At least we can look back at the past and enjoy what we have/had! But hey! Maybe in the future will look back at todays music and say we "miss" it. Which I doubt, but its almost 2012 anything can happen!

SO until then!
KEEP ON DANCING ;]

Hittin' it BIG then BANKRUPT!

What does Mc Hammer, TLC, and Toni Braxton all have in common? They ALL once were sitting on top of the charts, with smash singles and ballads! Lets take a stroll down memory lane!

Mc Hammer: Cant Touch This

TLC- Waterfalls

Toni Braxton- Unbreak My Heart

Now I cant talk much upon Mc Hammer because I didnt  follow him on the height of his career. But as far as Ms. Braxton, and TLC they both are part of the highlights of the 90's music Genre.  Hit after hit, Toni Braxtons catalogue includes: "Your Making Me High", "Breathe Again", "Another Sad Love Song",  and "He Wasnt Man Enough For Me".  TLC catalogue of hits includes "Waterfalls, "Red Light Special", "No Scrubs", "Unpretty" and "Baby Baby Baby"

Below is a video of TLC at the 96' Grammys. During the interview the subject of them and their bankruptcy was brought up. Below the video are quotes made by lefteye.

""We're not gonna sugar-coat anything any more, we have been quiet long enough.... can I get an Amen?"
"AMEN!!"
"I'll put it to you this way, we are the biggest selling female group ever. We have worked very hard."
"VERY HARD"
"We have been in this business for five years."
"FIVE YEARS"
"And we are buh-roke as broke can be."

This video starting at 5:10 Left eye explains how a group can sell TEN MILLION records and can still be broke!

"This is how a group can sell 10 million records and be broke, and everybody get ready to do your math. There are 100 points on an album, TLC has 7, every point is worth 8 cents. Alright, 7 times 8 is 56 cents, that means every time an album gets sold, TLC gets 56 cents. Sell 10 million records, $5.6 million, sounds like a lot of money. That's the addition, now here comes the subtraction. Well its not a lot of money when the record company has spent 3 million dollars to record your album.. we pay recording cost, video cost. Now we have 2.6 million dollars left. Well guess what? When you have that much money your in about the 48, 49 tax bracket. so that immediately gets deducted to 1.3 million dollars. THEN you split the rest three ways, thats about 300 thousand dollars, okay? 300 thousand dollars. I CAN BUY A NICE HOUSE WITH THAT, BUT WHAT AM I GONNA PAY MY BILLS WITH?" --Lisa "Left Eye Lopes"

You can say that TLC filing for bankruptcy is a legitimate excuse for filing. The girls were under an unfair contract with Pebbles (their manager at the time). But lets fast forward to 2011. The T out of TLC  T-Boz (Tionne Watkins)  has filed for bankruptcy yet again.

According to TMZ

According to docs filed last month in U.S. Bankruptcy Court, T-Boz (real name Tionne Watkins) found herself owing creditors $768,642.99 -- mostly from mortgages on her $1.2 million house.

The docs don't paint a picture of exorbitant spending -- she takes in $11,700/month in income, with monthly expenses totaling $8,821.

TLC had ten top ten singles, four number one singles, four multi-platinum albums, and four Grammy Awards ... but according to the docs, T-Boz only pulls in $1,200/month in royalties.

Ouch! Sorry T-boz... also Toni Braxton has filed twice also, in the 90s, and also within the few years that has passed.  Im not the one to judge and I don't know how these artist are spending their money. But it looks like Artist should watch how they spend their money. For example, cut down on the cost of their lavish life styles. Do you really need more than one mansion? T-boz has been out of the spotlight music wise for about ten years. So since thats the case, it would be smart to WATCH how you spend!

The GRAMMYS

Awww The Grammys, Its everyones dream to have one, to see one, to even hold one! But not everyone is blessed to own one. But Beyonce has a few up her sleeve.

Get it Beysus! You show em who's queen, and you DUST those 16 grammys!

So the Grammys is an award show where artist, producers, writers are award for their work. These hard working people are nominated into categories.  Like these talented males from the 1983 Grammys. Best Pop Vocal Male:  Michael Jackson, Prince, Billy Joel, Lionel Richie and Michael Sembello

Micheal Jackson won this category.

Now after accepting and receiving the award the artist will usually  thank God, family, record companies, and fans. These speeches are on a time limit because of the time slot they have on tv. So only a certain amount of time can be spent on you. Now heres a .gif of Nicki Minaj giving a Thank you speech (Not from the Grammys, but you get the picture)

Usually there is a particular artist who gets an honoree award last year it was Aretha Franklin. Younger generation artist usually cover a song. Here you see Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Yoland Adams, Martina McBride and Florence and the Machine's  FLorence paying tribute to Ms. Aretha.

(Check out the women blowing their voices, and Jennifer Hudson clapping! haha)

throughout the night there are also other performances by artist who have singles. Its a good way to promote their album that way since a lot of people tend to watch the grammies.
WORK IT BEYSUS KHRIST!  (Not a Grammy Performance, But again you get the picture!)

Lastly FASHION is something else that is important for the grammies, when walking the red carpet entering the building, the paparazzi, photographers, EVERYONE wants to know who your wearing, and what your wearing remember back in 2000 when EVERY magazine was talking about Jlos Versace Dress?

... And the BEST Selling Album of 2011 So far....

Goes to GODELE! (ADELE)

Now im not a fan of Adele, but props should be given where it is due.  This post is  to glorify Adele. Adele is an example that people will still go out and buy MUSIC! Lets look at the album cover, A Basic picture of Adele wit her eyes closed in black and grey. A basic looking font that reads "ADELE 21". No fancy font, just straight to the point.  In the picture you only ADELE. No stripped almost naked Adele, no Seductive positioning, no nothing as of that nature. Just a simple picture rocking fake eye lashes with her hand touching her head.  Rather than most albums that come out with using sex to sell records, and crazy colorful covers to stand out, to help sell records.

What kind of performances are we getting for the Goddess herself during performances? We are getting LIVE vocals for example Adele at the Brit Awards 2011 which took place about ten months ago.

See no backup dancers, no choreography, just Adele, a piano man, a mic, and a VOICE! So as you can see. You don't need sex appeal, you don't have to be super skinny, you just need to be good at your profession. Like Adele she's a singer, she sings, and she sings well, which equals to  her  success! Best selling album of the year 2011! GET IT GODELE, AND GET THOSE CHECKS TOO!

RIP to the Compact Disc 1982-2012?

Could this be true? No more Compact Discs? Music now only going straight digital!!! Is this a smart decision? WHAT!!!! Well according to blog sites and the Website (Side Line; Music Magazine) this could be happeneing. The article from sideline states that the major record labels such as Universal, EMI, and Sony will be abandoning the compact disc. Instead artist singles and albums will be going straight digital via Itunes.

Now I personally think this is dumb. Tina Turner is like seventy years old. My grandma is about sixty years old. So you know my grandma is a fan of Tina Turner. What if Tina Turner comes out in 2013 with a hot new single? My grandma is gonna want to buy her single/CD. BUT,  My grandma has NO intention on learning how to use a computer, or how to use an MP3 player. She's not interested in NONE of that technical stuff. So as you can see it would be a LOST sale because if anything she will tell me to burn the cd for her, since there is no physical CD to buy. So an Artist will lose a sale, and because of that the record company will suffer. And you should know, the record company is the backbone of the Artist. Im pretty sure there are a lot of Grandmas and Grandpas out there like my Grandma, who are old school and don't have any interest in learning stuff when it comes to the computer. Shoot even some of our parents are in the same boat.

What I do think should happen is that Record companies should cut down on the number of CDs that they make. Instead of completely disbanning the compact disc in all. I mean records will still sell. Grandmas and Grandpas will be able to go out and buy that new Tina Turner, or Earth Wind and Fire disc (if they ever come out with new music), and the obsessed fans will be happy buying both standard and deluxe edition of their favorite albums. and will all live happily ever after =)

Billboard NEW Policy

Billboard has announced a new introduction to a new policy which will make scoring #1 albums all the more difficult for artists who feel they can ‘cheat’ their way to the top.

Effective November 21st 2011, any albums priced below $3.49 during their month of release will be refused entry onto the Billboard 200.

In an official statement released by the company it stated:

"Free or almost-free albums don’t represent a marketplace".

Now lets look at Lady Gagas album "Born This Way". In May of this year, GaGa’s third album ‘Born This Way’ debuted with sales of 1,108,000 butonly because 440,000 copies had been sold by Amazon for an astounding $.099. Had the project been released after the new  policy, it still would have been #1 week but would have sold 664,000 as opposed to 1 million copies.

uh huh, you see that Lady Gaga! You cant cheat now. Lady Gaga was one of the people who was selling her album "Born This Way" album for 99 cents. Now I wanna give Lady Gaga or whoever had the brillant idea to sell her album that cheap. Cause I mean Lady Gags Second album "THE FAME MOSTER" blew up in sales ! Everything GAGAZILLA touched turned into platinum! But however her 3rd album "Born This Way" was all HYPEDD before her release. THis album is drastically different, and a whole different vibe, and isnt as successful as her first. But shoot that dont matter why? Because her album was all hyped up, before the release date, she sold her album at 99 cent, and guess what? She still has one of the biggest selling albums of 2011! Nothing can change that, well now it can! But I think Billboards new policy is the right way to go. Cause if they didnt change their policy, then ANYONE who is successful at the beginning of their career can pull the same stunt like Lady Gaga and hype the album up and be at number one.

BTW (By The Way)

I think this album cover is UGLY, are you serious? Oh yeah, maybe GAGA made such an outrageous cover for more sales. hmph I wouldn't be suprised. The Gaga tends to do a little to much EXTRA.
